Social Responsibility
Making a difference is an every day task at Bimbo Bakeries USA. We are grateful for the resources and talent entrusted to us by the communities in which we work. We strive to be good stewards of the environment and to support our neighbors in meaningful ways every day.
Healthy Lifestyles
We seek to make a difference every day by promoting the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating a well balanced diet, as well as frequent physical activity.
Since 2004, we have been the official bread supplier of the U.S. Olympic team, proudly providing Oroweat bread products to the U.S. Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Chula Vista, California. We have also sponsored several athletes, supporting their unwavering dedication to achievement. Among them, Oroweat proudly sponsored gold medalists Lindsey Vonn (Skiing), Shawn Johnson (Gymnastics), Aaron Peirsol (Swimming) and Brendan Hansen (Swimming). We are looking ahead to continuing to support the U.S. Olympic Team in London (2012).
Nutrition
In terms of our products, we try to offer a mix of nutritious and deliciously indulgent products for every occasion. In recent years we have been innovators in the marketplace by introducing new products with added benefits. This has included prebiotic breads, products with whole grains and extra fiber, products with phytosterols for cholesterol reduction, as well as products containing Omega 3 for cardiovascular health.
We have also introduced products with less than 100 calories per serving, including our fabulous Sandwich Thins, which help consumers keep track of their caloric intake. Current initiatives under implementation include producing only 0g trans fat products and developing products with less sodium and more whole grains.
Environment
We take great responsibility for lowering our carbon footprint. We currently have several programs in place to help us increase our water, power and energy savings, reduce our air emissions and have an environmentally responsible waste management system. We do this with a combination of investing in more efficient equipment and training. We are currently testing the use of Hybrid trucks in our fleet. Our first was tested in Southern California with much success in 2008. Since then, we have introduced two additional hybrid truck routes, which are in Oregon and Denver.
