Outreach Programs

Many of our brands and our employees participate in outreach activities on their own during the year. We like to highlight their efforts in the community when we can.

Grand Rapids – Kids' Food Basket

Ten BBU associates from the Grand Rapids Plant and Michigan Sales Team (West Michigan) volunteered at the Kids' Food Basket. Volunteers combined and packed food items in preparation for making Sack Suppers for children whose parents' income is either at or near poverty level.

"This is just another example of how lucky we at Hope Village are to be a part of this community. The community support is why we are able to do the things, those extra things our children deserve here," said Hope Village Executive Director, Tina Aycock. "We are so grateful to Bimbo Bakeries for choosing us two years in a row, to provide these excellent recreational opportunities for our kids." Hope Village for Children operates two emergency shelters for children from birth through age eighteen and two therapeutic group homes for children ages twelve through eighteen. They house more than 200 residents each year.

Meridian Bakery Helps Eagle Scout Renovate Playground at Hope Village for Children

For a second year, the Meridian bakery sponsored a local Eagle Scout to help him lead a charitable project for Hope Village for Children. With BBU’s assistance, Trevor Boling organized several new additions to the Hope Village play systems, including a swing set, a basketball goal, and a refurbished wooden play set. The new equipment will help promote physical activity among the children served at the facility. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Hope Village for Children to celebrate the BBU donation through the Good Neighbor Project.
