Futbolito Bimbo National Champions Crowned

Elementary schools representing four cities competed for national championship

FORT WORTH, Texas (May 26, 2009) - On May 17th and 18th, the US National finals for Futbolito Bimbo were held at Arena Athletics in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Boys and girls teams from elementary schools representing Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Los Angeles met in Dallas-Fort Worth to determine the national champion. Dallas-Fort Worth was represented by Paul Keyes Elementary School from Irving for the boys and Liberty Elementary School from Keller for the girls.

After a series of round robin games, the Dallas-Fort Worth team Paul Keyes and Minnie Gant from Los Angeles advanced to the boys finals. The girls' final consisted of Gary from Chicago and Seacliff from Los Angeles. The girls from Los Angeles easily won their final routing Chicago 11 to 0. The boys final was more hotly contested. In the preliminary round, Paul Keyes lost to Minnie Gant by a score of 11 to 8. In the final, Paul Keyes came out looking to win and they did just that with a final score of 5 to 3 over Minnie Gant.

Paul Keyes and Seacliff both advance to the international round. Champions from the Mexican finals and the Central American finals will fly to Dallas on July 2nd to play an international tournament on July 3rd and 4th. The winner of that tournament will be crowned Futbolito Bimbo 2009 International Champion. As an added reward to representing Dallas in the international finals, the team from Paul Keyes will have the opportunity to train with the Texas Outlaws Professional Arena Soccer League indoor soccer team.

The international finals will be held at the NYTEX Sports Centre located at 8851 Ice House Drive in North Richland Hills, Texas.
