Bimbo Bestows the Third Pan-American Nutrition, Food Sciences and Technology Award

Mexico City, March 25, 2009 - Grupo Bimbo, a leading baked products company in the world, today reaffirms its commitment towards nutrition and health before the world community by conferring the Third Pan-American Nutrition, Food Sciences and Technology Award.

The award ceremony took place in the presence of Dr. Luís Ignacio Sánchez Gómez, Federal Educational Services Administrator of the Department of Public Education; Dr. Juan Rivera Dommarco, of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) and Dr. Sergio Revah Moissev, of the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico (UAM), among other scientists and professors. Attending on behalf of Grupo Bimbo were: Roberto Servitje Sendra, Grupo Bimbo's Chairman of the Board, and Daniel Servitje Montull, Grupo Bimbo's CEO.

The award reflects Grupo Bimbo's concern over the generation of knowledge, the development of new technologies, and its interest and desire to foster research and disseminate scientific knowledge.

The Pan-American Bimbo Award forms part of the program, "Committed to your Health," created in 2003 in response to the Company's concern over improving the health and nutrition of its consumers in all the countries where it operates.

The program has five basic platforms in line with the Global Strategy On Diet, Physical Activity and Health (WHO), as follows:

1. Products: reformulation and innovation
2. Information to the consumer
3. Responsible advertising and marketing
4. Promotion of physical activity and Healthy Life Styles
5. Strategic alliances

In this regard, Daniel Servitje said, "The Pan-American Bimbo Award is part of Grupo Bimbo's commitment towards health and nutrition and its objective is to drive research on these topics, thus contributing towards the improvement of food product quality and to address the needs and life styles of our consumers."

On her part, Dr. Patricia Villalobos stated that the Pan-American Award fosters the creation of links between the industrial and academic sectors in the aim of achieving significant progress in the field of innovation and creation of new technological platforms and competitive products for the market.

She concluded that the acknowledgement awarded to the participating researchers reflects Grupo Bimbo's interest in driving scientific research in these fields of knowledge in both Mexico and the rest of the continent.

The call for projects announcement encompassed four different zones: The United States of America, Mexico, Central America and South America.

The awards are bestowed for two different categories: Nutrition and Food Science and Technology, divided into two different branches: Young and Professional Researchers.
