Our History
In the past century, bakeries were established and run by families who got their start by supplying baked goods to their neighborhoods. Over the past decades, Grupo Bimbo has acquired some of these bakeries and brought them together to form Bimbo Bakeries USA, which today is a leading baker in the continental US with sales over $1.2 billion.
Our rich heritage and passion for our products, brands and consumers are driven by a history of growth that began in 1984, although some of our leading brands date back to the early 1900s.
This history begins in 1984 when Grupo Bimbo starts exporting and distributing its leading Mexican products into California and Texas. Since then and up to 2002, a diverse number of bread and tortilla bakeries have been acquired in California, Texas, Colorado, Oregon and Ohio. Today, this entire legacy materializes in Bimbo Bakeries USA as a single operating entity in the US.
Among the most important acquisitions that have positioned Bimbo Bakeries USA as a premier baker in the US are Mrs Baird's Bakeries, the leading independent baker in Texas, adding 1,200 DSD routes and 7 bakeries, and George Weston's Western Division, Oroweat, adding 1,300 routes and 5 bakeries.
Today, Bimbo Bakeries USA serves customers in more than 27 different states in the continental US, constantly expanding its DSD distribution and product offering to better serve the needs and opportunities that our competitive marketplace offers and demands.
